  • Similar to the 2016 bottle but with even more finesse, silkiness, precision (especially apricot in the mouth), and penetration. Just a stunning bottle. Cellared since original release.

  • 8% alcohol. Superb long cork. Pale gold colour.
The nose is pleasant and distinctly grapey. There is slight tingly sensation in the mouth, but again the dominant impression is the freshness of the wine and its closeness to unfermented grape juice. Better (for me) on its own as an aperitif than with the meal. So unlike any French moelleux that I know. Remarkably fresh given its age and its light build.

  • Cellared since original release. From a very tricky vintage, this wine has gotten through its adolescence and is now showing beautifully -- why Jesuitengarten is often considered the second greatest vineyard in Forst and why Forst is the Vosne-Romanée of the Pfalz.

The wine features orange rind and mandarin orange aromas and flavors with just a hint of pineapple. The mouth shows the power of the Pfalz but also the finesse of Jesuitengarten. The acidity has finesse and plays well against the sweetness and slight creaminess on the palate, making for overall sensuousness.

Fruity-style Spätlese is not often seen any more in the Pfalz, but this wine makes a case for them.

8% stated alcohol. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 24 07.

  • Gold. A bit of a musty nose with banana and honey showing through. Flavors of honeyed drupes, apricot and prune. Acidity edging out the fruit. This is probably ready to drink, but could also hold on for a little while yet. Would pair with a cheese course. The 'best buy' in a tasting that included some heavy hitters.

  • Golden yellow in the glass almost all the way to the edge.

Muted nose upon opening... Plenty of petrol, ripe stone fruit, hints of stony mineral, and grapefruit as the nose opens up.

Full bodied, viscous and slick, the palate is flinty and fleshy, notes of stone fruit and minerality lead to medium length finish that recalls mandarin oranges. Unfortunately, I'm speaking of canned mandarin orange segments, just a little too sweet.

Quite surprised at the Spätlese designation, seems sweeter and richer, not what I was expecting. An interesting wine with some intriguing flavors and mild complexity, and unexpected richness. Not quite as much acid as I'd like to harmonize with the richness of this wine. Perhaps, it would show better against a sweet dessert. Not having any dessert around, this wine falls a little flat for me.
