  • Drank this last night, very nice. Medium-bodied, moderate dose of oak. Many years ahead, but drinking nicely now.

  • Opened this and decanted at 11am for an evening takeout meal from a Brazilian Churrascaria.

On opening: nice nose, good complexity of dark fruit and spice. Fruit was there on the palate, but bitter tannins on the back end made for a less than palatable experience.

Three hours in: Fruit and the structure really becoming well integrated. OG N. 44 is starting to show really well. Poured back in bottle and stored again at cellar temperature.

Eight hours in (dinner): This has evolved into a really fine wine. Good balance, a lot going on with added tertiary floral notes, tannins are lip smacking and complementary.

This is still not at a pop and pour stage but with the right prep it is already very accessible. More importantly OG N. 44 is showing real potential for serious development and a long and enjoyable drinking window ahead.

  • Better than the top Cabernet at your local grocery chain (unless your grocery chain is Wegmans), but not something I would seek out. Somewhat anonymous and overripe fruit that I don’t think will ever come close to the likes of Heitz or Ridge. Still, better backbone and aromatics than your average $25 mass market cab.

  • If you know, you know. AFWE here but this is evolving into a solid Napa Cab. Still some oak and vanilla to work through but quite tasty. Should be rocking in 5 years.

  • Reticent nose of red and purple fruits, talcum powder and some spice. The palate is primarily purple fruited, with well-integrated vanilla flavors, along with a gardenia note. The tannins are fine-grained and while noticeable, it does not detract from current drinking. A bit too much vanilla for my tastes. I like this better than the 42, but I think this needs 5-7 years at a minimum.
