Dense and viscous, more redolent of a port or liqueur. Definitely on its way south now (as it has every right for a 16-year-old Beaujolais!) but still with some nice, vibrant, candied plum and cherry fruit at its core.

This is an old Beaujolais that really deserves to be consumed now or within the next year. Across France, 2003 was hot and this wine really shows the heat of that vintage in Beaujolais. It is surprisingly rich and deep in flavour; almost monolithic but not quite. Enjoyable but really falls apart in the glass so do not decant and try to serve at roughly cellar temperature of 12 to 15.
Colour: very deep, dark red with some bricking. Its appearance is similar to an aged, well cellared Australian red from the 1990s.
Nose: some heat and alcohol. Almost old raisin but not prune.
Taste: really much better directly after opening. As it warms up and breathes, it starts to loose any focus. Rich in a sort Christmas spice kind of way; you would never guess that this was a gamay. (take it to a blind tasting. . . )
Very little acidity in this wine; pair it well with food and it is an interesting surprise. Let it breath and warm for any period of time and it just becomes more one dimensional and less interesting. Drink up.

Cellaraid Discovery Box; 5/19/2017-5/26/2021 (Delivered to Home): deep ruby with some sediments; clean, pronounced nose, with aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, stewed fruits, prune, eucalyptus, mint, cloves, earth mushroom, leather; dry, acidic and tannic, high alcohol, medium body, very intensely flavoured, of banana, redcurrant, blackcurrant, blueberry, prune, raisins, mint, white pepper, nutmeg, cedar, leather, savoury meat, with a long finish; outstanding wine! mindblowing! at its best already so drink now

From magnum. Tired and showed too much smoke from likely too hot weather
