Decanted through a Vinturi and given an additional 20 minutes of air before serving with dinner. Medium brick color and noticeable bottle stink when opened. Aromatics and flavors seemed to be a mash up of red mystery fruit with no delineation of flavors or structural definition combined with burning newsprint. The mid palette and finish were dominated by the 14.6% alcohol. It did seem to improve marginally by the end of the meal but I don't have high hopes for the other bottle we have. It is puzzling that the earlier reviews seemed to be so favorable for this. It was not corked or cooked so I'm not sure if this batch just ended up in a bad barrel or what. 85 points is being generous.

A great showing for this wine on day 1, really hitting its sweet spot with the oak and acids folded in. Prototypical RRV notes, not overripe or overmade, with nothing out of place. A bit jumpy on day 2. Not a wine of great character and not a good QPR. Gentle raspberry tang is nice, not profound. This should be peaking this year and next.

Jimmy's 40th birthday Dinner - Avia Hotel (Napa, California): there was an initial thought of this being corked, but that quickly subsided after it opened up a bit. This wine had the most memorable nose of the night. bright cherries and strawberries with a hint of cola and vanilla. but the wine was not nearly as impressive on the palate as the Burg we had previously. The finish was short, but not bad. If I had this wine alone it would have shown much better.

(Hartford / Hartford Court Pinot Noir Arrendell Vineyard) Medium cherry red color; spicy cherry nose; tasty, spicy red fruit palate with acidity; medium finish
(Hartford / Hartford Court Pinot Noir Arrendell Vineyard) Light medium red color with clear meniscus; very odd nose of port, black cherry and floral note; hot, big, tart cherry, red fruit; medium finish (voted WOTF, of a pretty weak flight)

What a disappointment. I had high expectations but they were not fulfilled. Thin, hot, and not my impression of RRV on a good day.
