Medium to full body, plums, blackberry like dark fruits with hint of umami and oak, moderate finish with tobacco - maybe lost a step but tastes were solid amd held up well to moderately spicy chicken entree

I’ve been to the Five Star Cellars tasting room only 3 times in my life. Still, each time was a great and memorable personal experience… excellent wines and really cool people behind those wines. Good times, for sure. Anyway, the 2016 is just flat-out delicious. Nose of deep, dense layers of dark fruit—blackberry being most prominent—with wet stone and violet joining in. The palate saturates the tongue with rich layers of cassis, blackberry, and raspberry, crushed stone, and a lengthy and most-pleasant cedar/cold steel blend (as absurd as that sounds), all of which flows into the long and pleasantly warm finish. This is so good. So enjoyable. In my opinion, this is really in a sweet spot now, but it can easily cruise another 4-5 years or more.

Classic cassis with oak and tobacco. Medium tannins. Long finish.
