  • Far too good to use for cooking but there have you have it. I saved one glass that was like a smooth blackberry pastille albeit with a little bit of rough tannin still at the very end, slightly chewy. Excellent producer I feel. I need to buy some real cooking wine, this was a real waste, but on the plus side I do now have several meals of ragu so it was not in vain.

  • Deep red. The intent had been to use this for cooking in the absence of a true cooking wine, and whilst 200ml did end up in the dish we drank the rest and it was pretty good. Rich fruit, really juicy with an up-front attack of dark berries. We somehow held on to this for several days, and by about day 4 it had taken on the taste of a medicinal blackcurrant lozenge which was not at all unpleasant. Ready to go, bold young Syrah.

  • Easy drinking Syrah, no backbone to speak of that needs time to soften, this is upfront spicy, dark-fruited and pretty amiable. I had a bottle I didn't publish a note for about 8 months ago that I found pretty hard going but this was on point. Clearly not going to win any prizes but it was about 13 quid a bottle on the table so it get points for even showing up. Very decent and enjoyable. Good on day 2 also.
