  • Darker red color. Somewhat muted nose, very acid driven, bitter cherry, tart. Palate leans similar, very hard edges, drinks like a red wine, some spice and herbs. Interesting profile however somewhat disjointed at this stage. Would be nice interesting to see how this evolves over a 5-10 year period.

  • Blind Champagne Tasting (Astrid's House): Combined note here, as I contributed the 2013 and the 2018 to a blind Rose tasting event. Both wines were bagged blind, then mixed into the main blind tasting event, which was 12 total wines. The 2018 is the November 2021 disgorgement, with 2-4 gms of dosage of mostly Pinot Meunier, although I know from my visit to the winery in 2022 that the 2018 has about 5% Pinot Gris. The 2018 pours a neon pink, and presents as a red with bubbles, perceived through the weight and texture. Spicy watermelon, tart cherry, strawberry all supported by good acidity. Very fruity in tone. As for the 2013, it is the January 2017 disgorgement, with a dosage listing of 0-5 gms. It has some aged tone around the edges, more salmon colored and very different from the 2018's neon pink. Like the 2018, I find the 2013 to be fuller bodied with the same kind of density, exhibited through a sense that it's a red wine that is imbued with some bubbles. There is a good tang to the 2013, even a creaminess, like a strawberry cream, along with some licorice. Finishes with lime, and it reads as more complete to me than the 2018 is showing. In total, I dug the 2013 more than the 2018, and the extra age has helped round out the 2013 very well.

  • Served blind. Very richly and brightly colored. Tight on the nose. Something like a rich, dry wine on the palate. The bubbles are low which contributes to that perception but there was also the general feel of something more like the more lean feel you get with a still wine. Juicy with some mineral character. Good if challenging.

  • Tasting with Aurelien Laherte of Laherte Freres (At the winery in Chavot): Disgorged November 2021. Mostly Meunier but also about 5% of Fromenteau. Like the 2018 Les Crayeres showed me, the sunny aspect of the vintage comes through here, too. Pink salmon color. Juicy, with cherry, watermelon, blood orange and finishing with same juicy quality, along with a spiciness. I would say this is going to be a very good vintage for Beaudiers.
