Had at a tasting dinner with my husband. Mostly seafood options (scallops, escargot, tuna, etc) and other than the escargot - it paired perfectly with everything. It was definitely the best paired with the tuna, but all the others were lovely.
The wine is still young (which I normally wouldn’t say regarding a Chardonnay), but Aubert is one of those wines that seems to be lovely at any point of its life.
Tropical fruits (melon stood out the most for me, but my husband didn’t get that at all), orange zest, and a hint of floral. Perfect acidity and balance. ? Didn’t decant. Kept at cellar temp (55) until we opened at dinner then it stayed cool in a chiller bucket.
Color. The most extravagant rich yellow color from a Chardonnay. Typically this color comes from 30 year Riesling auslese.
Nose. Straw, clove, toasted oak, toasted oak, lemon drop candy, Rosemary?, oak splinters. It's a very hedonistic nose.
Palate. Banana, papaya, pineapple, cooked apples, subtle oak. Finish lasts 1-2+ minutes. Mouth coating texture. Acidity actually takes a back seat to the fruit. Full bodied and rich. Yummy.
Should you age it? Maybe. I pulled the cork at 5pm and started drinking at 630. I think its ready now.
Side note. In a more rounded Burgundy glass, it's different wine altogether. Round and full of butter. Like a Mrs Butterworth.
Question. Could this Vineyard be the best example a Blanc de blanc from Aubert?
On the nose, citrus, a little vanilla and mango. Palate is citrus, melon, gentle oak; a little vanilla and then butterscotch at the end. Slight sweetness mid palate and a tiny bit effervescent. Really luscious mouthfeel. Very nice chard.
