Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 87.1 points

  • Full fruited nose with medicinal and herbal notes. There is power here but also good purity. The wine itself is a bit of a bruiser. Chunky fruit, incredible depth and texture for Marsannay but lacks finesse. Not yet ready - there are still elements that need resolving. Try again in 2020? Has a chance to be fine QPR but give it time. (88+)

  • PNP. Cork sound. Color on this is dense garnet w slightly bricking edges. Nose has strong resin and medicinal aroma. Swishing this unloads the acid and tannin and little else is appreciated. Maybe a chocolate note but no fruit. Sipping gives tea w maybe some tart florals and orange rind. There is some fruit hidden in here but right now totally obscured by the structure. Not sure that the fruit will survive the structure on this one, but if I had some would give it a chance and wait

  • Good deep red color. Aromas of black cherry mixed with rose, sous bois and a faint touch of game. Classic and compelling nose. Black cherries are confirmed on a relatively masculine, compact structural frame with good acid on the palate. Tannins are persistent through the finish along with suggestions of some other roasted meat flavors. This opens up very nicely with time.

  • Rich garnet ruby. Medicinal red fruit, licorice and coffee nose mixed with a slight herbaceous element. Still coiled, there is a hint of surmaturite that scares me. Otherwise, there is nice body and a solid, wild multi-layered finish that should mature nicely. Hold off until 2015 – there is still a lot to be resolved. (88+?)

  • Decanted and allowed to breathe for about an hour or so. Fresh and tart continuing to open as we drank. Consumed with salmon (nice pairing). Showed tart cherry and lavender with a bit of barn yard on the nose. Enjoyed.

Rockss and Fruit

  • By Lyle Fass

(Domaine Collotte Marsannay "Vieilles Vignes") Very Burgundian nose of wet earth, dark red and black fruits and some minerals. Seamless palate with great finesse, concentration and sappy black and red fruits. Rustic chunky tannin and great acidity. The complete package and shows how Marsannay really shined in 2005.
