Man, this was really good. Didn't know what to expect as I bought this on release many years ago, and I rarely drink Zinfandel. Super concentrated, plenty of alcohol but did not come across as over-the-top because it was well-balanced. Beautiful but heavy oak with some butteriness. Kind of reminded me of an aged napa Cabernet. There you go, Zinfandel can age... if the winemaker knows what they're doing.

Nose does not reveal the 16.4%. Sweet in the most draw-you-in, appealing way. But then the palate is fruit forward in a way you wouldn't call "sweet." The age hasn't raisin'd the fruit--it's carmelized it, refined it, it's taken on a different characteristic. Could go five if not ten more years but may be at the perfect intersection of exuberance and complexity. Concentrating down with air like a black hole; a heavy core. An enthralling Zin experience.

For first 30 mins, undrinkable -- bitter, burnt, zero fruit. Set aside until following evening and miraculously, the rich, dark cherry and blackberry fruit had emerged. The thick burnt structure remained, but was amply balanced by the fruit. A rich, old zin.

So much for the notion that Turley zins don't age well. This one was served next to 2007 zins from Ridge and Carlisle. It looked, smelled, and tasted younger than the other two and frankly blew them both away. All kinds of fruit on the nose, along with pumpkin pie spices. Fairly rich, with a nice finish. It IS undoubtedly past its peak, but WOW!

Very good. Full bodied. Not as fruity; more acidity. Long finish. Dark ruby color. Not as complex, but very good.
