  • Red berry, plum and vanilla. Full bodied modern Rioja. Quite young but delicious! Great QPR.

  • $30 at Costco.
Yeah, been buying my closet storage wines from there, as I never want to hit the cellar with my rare stuff. Love the international selections and prices here on the Peninsula.

    No nose on decant.
Still no nose 6 hours later.
Incredibly tight! This is not at all ready. It needs at least 3-10 years to try again.

From the glass that I poured from decanter 6 hours ago I can coax out a smell of density with lots of sous bois and blackness.
On the palate sour, shocking grip, acid and spice, but those tannins luxuriously finish off.

    I'll revisit tomorrow.

For now, I'd say buy and cellar for 3 years to test it again.

I pulled out oven baked golden potatoes with salt and rosemary and this paired well with that: As well as it could. But still very tight, yet it's endearing as I let it clear my palate of the patats.
Grippy, pithy with tart juice that tastes a touch like they purposefully picked some under ripe bunches with whole cluster of at least 50% is my best guess.

I'm sitting here drinking it, now 9 hours later, and getting smacked by the tannins, but feeling the health benefit of its concentration. Revisit in 5.

At the end of the bottle (I had expected to revisit tomorrow, but my greedy palate just consumed it tonight, and for good reason, as this is legit good stuff.) I will be buying more of this and cellaring. It's a value beyond most at this price. it will sing in 5, assuredly. It's quality. There's a levity of smoky nature that smacks of quality. This bottle was opened too early. But, we have the chance to buy it up and store for what this gives in the long run.
    Good luck!

  • This wine is a baby. Nice structure and balance. Reminds me of young Barolo. Started to open after four hours. Tight. Needs a few more years to come together. 91+

  • All fruit, this. Very primary. Im not, really, into it. Isnt wine not only about keeping fruit but also molding the fruit into something more? And if you focus mainly on keeping fruit - wouldnt you want varietal markers to play a central role? Nothing "wrong" with this, though, just no real point...
