  • Excellent-
Poured half a glass from Coravin the first night and it seemed quite primary, so decanted a couple of hours the next night and it showed better. This is full throttle Grenache, no mistaking it from the nose through the body. Ripe, very smooth, kirsch, some baking spices and scorched earth. Very nice, mildly warming. Clean finish, not gloppy or tiring despite the heft and abv.

Not sure about QPR here at full price, but I'm OK with the value at close-out $50 USD. Lay down the other bottle until ~2029?

    Importer: Misa Imports

15% abv - I believe it, I didn't got alcohol heat, but it was there in the body

    Empty bottle weight: 618g

  • Big well developed nose with lots of fruit, this is a big ripe bottle that is just what I like and it can age for a while.

  • If you’re a fan of big Châteauneuf this is your bottle. Not only it it sweet and extracted it’s also incredibly polished. A few sharp edges, no heat and ridiculous length. Tons of dark plum, vanilla, cherry, backing spice and mineral. Close to Rayas but stylistically denser and visually darker. If you’re a big Southern Rhone fan this is 99-100 points all day.

Drinks well straight away but better with air. Drink or hold.

  • Deep purple. Powerful right out of the gate. Pronounced intensity on the nose. Dark plum, lavender, garrigue and baking spices. Medium plus acidity and high tannins. Long finish. The ethanol was evident on the nose and the heat on the palate. Give it 3-5 years to mellow out.

  • Drinking Amiral G and L'Avenue side by side. I couldn't believe they can be so different in style. Another unbelievable 100% Grenache! Hat's off! This is my second vintage of Amiral G after its 2016 vintage. I will start following this wine going forward.

Wow! This is a bigger and more concentrated version than the 2019 L'avenue in both aromatics and flavor. The trade-of between Amiral G and L'avenue is that the latter come across more elegant and poise right now. Amiral G is doing its flamengo dance showing off its struts; whereas L'avenue is dancing and circling in the classical ballroom effortlessly.

After opening up (took longer than L'avenue), Amiral G drinks seamlessly without hard edges. High viscosity coats the palate smoothly with lots of fruit flavor attacking the palate with a wealth of mixed red and dark ripe fruits. It's very dense and concentrated; and it will be marvelous once it's fully integrated in a few years. The intense fruit flavor balances out the acidity creating a nice tension and sensation. The tannin is super-fine and velvety. I can relate to some reviewers saying its nose is sexy as it does remind me of SQN notes but with more measured. The bouquet has an uplifting aromatics with a hint of new leather mixed with spices. The color is dark red with a purple tint.

Rating: 97-100; 97+ right now but can hit 98+ when fully integrated in a few (3-5) years.
