  • Red and black fruit, earth and smokey, good structure, very good wine

  • Tonight at our Big Group dinner at Chianti Grill Roseville MN. We had a terrific time with 2 tables of 9 each. I can't ever remember seeing 4 Etna reds at one dinner? Really fun since I love Nerello Mascalese, a grape sure to please any Burghead or lover of Barbaresco. This btl may have had another grape or two blended in I didn't catch. At least according to CT. Not sure but I thought it was 100% NM on the label? My first sip found this pretty soft, pleasant & plummy. I enjoyed this and may give another btl a go sometime if I run across it but it seemed a little underwhelming tonight alongside the 3 Passopisciaro.

  • Tasted last nite. On the lighter side. Notes of tart sour cherries, with some slight bitterness. Somewhat earthy. Tannins still visible, and very Lipton tea-like. Interesting wine.

  • Mid ruby appearance, pale and some orange towards the rim.

A more focused nose, compared to the Allegracore. Similarly fresh and lifted with an rich ripe core – this is packed with sous bois aromas, notes of red apple skins, tar, dried cherry, a distinct ‘wildness’ and a farmhouse cider-like ‘toastiness’.

Medium-bodied, it again feels richer, more concentrated and intense than Allegracore with a spicier feel too. Fragrant and earthy, more cherry fruit, apple skin, darker notes besides, tea and dried flowers. Very long and fine with some light and savoury grip.

On return, the next afternoon and this was all the better still. Really felt it had put on more weight and texture, creamier fruit too. Some gorgeous flavours and super length.

I am no expert on Italian wines, but this fit in with the line up of quality Piedmont (and other northern) reds we tasted this week. Brilliant stuff.
