  • Opened at Le Millésime in Chambolle. P&P, but then decanted to speed things along. #4307

This is a good wine, with some upside, but needs more time. If you do open it, give it enough air. The palate noticeably loosens up after giving it a lot of air, but the nose is still tight and interestingly enough belongs to the darker, more broody and meaty side of Chambolle. The oak is very present and still needs time to integrate properly. You can see the changes that Charles has made to the Domaine, and this is a very good village wine - it just needs some patience.

That being said, I prefer Roumier and especially Mugnier's village wines at this point, and especially given the pricing. I'm not sure I'd seek out again unless in about 5+ years time just to see where it's at. For more immediate pleasure and a lot more playfulness, seek out Mugnier instead. Thanks to M for sharing though, and a lovely way to wrap up.

  • Charles Lachaux lunch (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL): Slightly more purple colour than the Vosne 2019. More compact than the Vosne too and with more depth, needs more time to open up and to reveal its character of flowers and chalk, very energetic, seamless texture with real elegance, excellent length. Will ultimately be the greater wine of the two.

  • Very primary, red fruit dominated nose with wild strawberries, flowers, and a slight darker cherry note. There’s a lot going on and the nose evolved throughout the night and picked up more complexity and interesting flavors. Good acidity on the palate with lots of fruit and a good amount of structural tannins and quite a bit of dry extract. Nice finish. this started out somewhat uninteresting but really improved with air. Lovely wine, but not worth anything close to secondary market price.

  • 01773. For a ripe vintage there is still some greeness which puzzled me. Good weight and fruit resolution but at best an ok village wine... VR was much better. 92

  • Very impressive village wine. Given the hype I was not convinced about the 2018 young (although it definitely has potential), but this 2019 was great after an hour decant. A beautiful nose of roses, plums, spices and raspberries. The palate is even better with deep and pure flavors of rose hips and sappy red berry fruit. Balance and texture are superb and the finish is impressively long. This will age well, but it is absolutely irresistible right now. Singular wine and up there with the best at this level.
