Illegible alcohol level. The long cork is well penetrated by wine. Medium colour, fading at the edge and quite turbid. Lovely rich nose with mostly tertiary aromas of leaf decay and some high-pitched red berries. Very smooth in the mouth, but still very lively with lifting acidity in the finish. The oak is fully absorbed but it adds to the complexity of the wine and to the general feel of class. Fully mature but not in decline. A very successful bottle.

13% alcohol. The cork is of average length and it is soaked 3/4 of the way. Dark colour with some sign of ageing. The nose is rich with a definite oaky component and notes of undergrowth. The mouth is vivid, with flavours matching the aromas; very good length and plenty of acidity in the finish. The best thing about this wine is its silky mouthfeel. For me, and not for the first time, the oak regimen is too heavy handed at this address. Not a repeat purchase.

Pure Chambolle. Red fruit, great balance, super tasty. Exactly what I want from Chambolle village.

A Tasting of Chambolle-Musigny Village Wines from the 2005 Vintage (San Francisco): Light ruby. Floral and smoky. Slightly more sappy than the Rion but less fruit and more earth. Backward, very woody base.
