Colour was amber and the nose was expressive with typical notes of quince, mango, wax and minerals. The palate was medium bodied, beautifully focussed, seamless and long, showed complex fruit and played variations on the aromas from the nose with depth, underlying roundness, silky texture, gentle sweetness offset by mouth-watering acidity and backbone. Excellent wine and a superb pairing for poulet vallée d'Auge (chicken with mushrooms in a creamy sauce laced with Calvados) .
Note: Foreau's demi-sec is labelled "Les Perruches" for the Belgian market.

Chenin Fest: 28 Loire Chenin Blancs from 1995 - 1997. (Don Rice's.): A bigger, riper and more profound wine than either Pinon, this packs a wallop across the palate. The fruit is plenty ripe and orange tinged, so more quince paste rather than say quince preserves, a hint of peach, citrus and plenty of mineral. The structure is just massive and balances the wine beautifully. Extremely long and vibrant in the palate, it seriously plants the flag and says it's there. an even better showing than the great bottle at the Foreau-a-thon a few years ago. A.

Older Loires: Fairly dark color, which as in this case, often means nothing with non-dry Chenin. It is sort of like a glass of rich, caramelized apples, but has enough acidity and minerality to keep it balanced, and still has plenty of life left in it.

Hard to remember. Went fast with cheese. People loved it. Have one remaining.

My favorite of the demi-secs with tons of upside potential. It will perhaps be eclipsed by 2008, but, for now, this is the stuff.
