The first Snowden I ever truly remember having seemed to have been an ex chateau release of a 1998 Cabernet that I purchased probably 6 years ago and consumed a little over 3 years ago. At that time, impressively youthful fruit given its 21 years of age. Fast forward to this one, this is pretty darn impressive as a wine that was in barrel when I was drinking that 98 Cabernet! What's a mature dark black and purple roasted fruits with some almonds and walnuts towards the finish with a very dry stiff tannic finish. A little bit spicy and peppery towards the finish which was pretty nice. But the mouth feel is quite opulent and this one has a ton of layers to lay down if desired for at least the next decade. Impressive wine, and really no reason whatsoever to drink it now unless you just want a really good chewy thick knife and fork wine to either open up a la carte or with fairly substantial dinner fare.
