This is a textbook example of a too young Barolo. But the raw material is there for this to easily develop into a 93+ point wine in ten years. Color right now is super light ruby red, completely transparent. Nose is very present right off the bat with notes of mint, licorice and tar being dominant early on. We decanted, and as the evening wore on, it began to develop a bit more softness with some biscuit and just a hint of oak peeking through. The palate is all over the place, it’s almost like you taste the tannin, acidity and fruit separately; I’d say the wine is 10% integrated at this point. Finish is wonderfully long aided by very strong tannins. This will be great, the 91 score is tricky and merely a reflection of its current (immature) state.

Post-Prelude 25-Nebbiolo B sides (DP's, Goose Hollow, Portland OR): This was open and giving right away with dark red cherries, raspberries, licorice, spice notes, crushed rocks, dark red berries, cinnamon, and a touch of tobacco. There is excellent definition and balance to the tones with good depth, though there is a forward quality. The Full bodied feel is balanced and poised with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins that show off their youth. This will certainly benefit from a few years of aging, but this really has the feel of something more for the mid-term.

Compared to the base Barolo and Bricco Fiasco, the Margheria showed darker fruit tones and more savory characteristics of iron and minerals. On the nose, I found dark red raspberry fruit, iron, minerals, and a bit each of smoke and pepper. On the palate, the wine was more structured yet if anything a bit more finessed in terms of texture/tannins than the earlier wines. I found dark red raspberry / cherry fruit, smoky roasted meat, and a finish of smoky red fruit, spices, citrus peel, and salinity/minerality. Good level of acidity and sweetness to the fruit. Medium to light in body and relatively smooth tannins.

Light to medium garnet in color. Light aromas of red fruit, raspberry and cranberry. Short finish with intense tannins that need more time to mellow.
