  • Fresh colour of crimson, scent of sous bois and licorice. In the mouth the fruit is serious, but the emphasis is on freshness and precision. Good length, and a very satisfying wine with penty of potential. (My point have been re-set and are no longer influenced by the prevalent inflation. This wine is truly excellent, so 89 is right)

  • Gevrey 1er Theme Dinner at IT Shanghai. Great coincidence. One bottle was from my flight and another was tasted blind. One bottle tasted like it should for a ripe 2005 while the other felt even younger and almost fully primary on the palate. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of ripe red cherries, glossy black cherries, sweet spices. The younger tasting bottle had almost tar-like earth and dark red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of glossy black cherries, dark red cherries, licorice, dark spices, dark meat. Long finish.
Very good quality. But I feel a twinge of regret that 2 bottles of this went down in a single night. These 2005s clearly still have many more years of development to go before they will be optimally drinking.
    From ~100 year old vines.
