Almost tawny in color. Some feral character and funk to the nose with a savory tinge of smoked meat. A bit lacking in acidity and certainly rustic with simple evolved flavors of earth, spice, and game. The finish was very short and this bottle was fully mature 10 years ago, easily.

this bottle was brought by keith to a cellar tasting at selkirk manor. we shared with jean and pat. this followed my 1/2 bottle of 1989 meyney which is one of keith's favorites. this bottle of meyney showed very nicely and was enjoyed by all. tasting this santenay required a gear shift as both keith and i are more attuned to the wines of bordeau. despite's keith's apologies, the wine was quite beautiful and had an unmistakable burgundian presentation. comparing with initial professional notes at point of release, this wine has evolved wonderfully from its austere initial showing. the wine has a velvety feel in the mouth but has been cut from plush cloth. luscious fruit may have been more enjoyable without food or with a mild cheese. nevertheless, it held up well paired with roast beef, baked potato and garden salad. after researching the wine, we were saddened to learn that this was the last wine made by gerant potel may he rest in peace.

Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Oriole - Chicago IL): Popped, decanted, and poured. I was expecting more, but this seemed simpler and more rustic than I was hoping for.

Drinks like velvet. Long finish with plums and blackberries and a hint of dirt. At its peak.
