Medium-dark crimson color with nary a sign of bricking. Opened and consumed from bottle over two hours, this underwent a spectacular and fascinating evolution as the wine was allowed to breathe. The nose was a kaleidoscopic parade of aromas- violet, venison, honeycomb, acetone, raspberry (characteristic of this vintage), mint, rye bread, chalk and cocoa- that revealed themselves one by one. The palate is fruity in an elegant and understated way. There is a persistent stony flavor throughout, expressive of the old quarry underlying this climat. Despite numerous cautionary warnings that the 1992's are best drunk young, this wine is very much alive, with subtle but supportive acidity remaining. Clearly one of the "occasionally great" Cortons (to quote Remington Norman), this is balanced, delicious, and drinking superbly right now. No wonder these vines are currently leased to D.R.C.; this is great juice expressing amazing terroir.
