I had the great pleasure of visiting the Alliet family last February so I was impatient to open one of their bottles. Commonly called “Tradition”, this cuvée is the entry-level wine. Of course this is 100% Cab Franc. PnP. At the uncorking, the reduction notes are pronounced. They dissipate almost totally after a good half hour. They then give way to an incredibly appealing, meaningful and vinous nose with scents of blackberries and raspberries, a feminine touch of violet and a discreet hint of roasted pepper. It also reveals a very nice freshness on menthol and licorice. The palate blows me away! Medium-bodied, with tannins still showing a subtle grip, it seduces with its dense and ripe texture, its remarkable balance and its impressive aromatic intensity. On a light earthy background, the flavors go off in all directions: dark fruits (plenty of blackcurrant), leather, a few bay leaves and a turn of the pepper mill to gently spice up the whole thing. A fine acidity extends the aftertaste (and the enjoyment) for long seconds. This is very good! To buy in magnum size because 75cl is not enough for such a gourmet and so immediately accessible wine! Lovely wine, as usual. This one leans a bit more to the savory side of cab franc than the 19, but very much a typical Alliet. Needs air for the aromatics to come forward.

Fantastic. And even better day 2. Super juicy ripe fruits with all that Chinon funk, what’s not to like. Awesome QPR.

It’s ready. Give it 30 minutes to open up though.

This one was normal. It seems the last one was a (strange) bad bottle.
