Italian Wine Scholar Class at The Texas Wine School. Med (+) ruby with a purple core. Complex nose of red cherry, black plum, savory herbs, mint. Youthful. Improves with air. It sees no oak. Dry, with black berries, med acidity, med (+), polished tannins and med (+) alcohol (13.5%). Full bodied, with med (+) flavor intensity and length. The finish has a pleasantly bitter licorice note. Drinking well now and even better after a couple of days. Solid QPR, although a little leaner than other years.

Dark fruit a little earth, balanced acid. There was a little bitter in the finish. This is what I want from a wine at this price. Solid midweek pizza wine. Not complicated and not a particularly long finish.

Grapy herbaceous nose with lots of cola that reminds me as much of dry Lambrusco as it does dolcetto from Dogliani. Light mouth. Strong bitter finish that I like in a dolcetto. Would do well with as an antipasto wine with salume and could also pair well with fresh whey based cheeses like ricotta.

Frankly, I am surprised at the comments on this wine. I bought six bottles recently, and last night we opened our first. We found it to be a very good example of Dogliani. Some had mentioned fizziness, but we found none. (Usually that would indicate insufficient sulfites leading to a slight fermentation in the bottle.) Ours had a plush mouthfeel, lovely dark fruit, and a long finish. If I believed in the 100-point scale (which has actually become a 20-point scale from 80 to 100), I would certainly rate it higher than the scores seen here.

I was rather unkind to this wine in my last review. It’s still not my favorite dolcetto. It tastes too thin. But it is enjoyable.
