Madeira Pilgrimage; 2/1/2016-2/4/2016 (Madeira): Sweet aromas but pleasantly bitter as well with complex spice and orange rind. Stays fresh despite the richness. Dried apricot, candied orange, pine sap, layered spice and anise cookie flavors. Complex and layered with lots of intrigue. Whoa.

Had over the course of a few months, mostly side by side with the 40-year Mae Manuela. This didn't quite have the depth and density of the 40-year but enjoyable nonetheless. Bitter almond and orange. Very well balanced.

The Matriarch of Madeira, A Tribute to Dona Manuela Barbeito (Bar Boulud, NYC): An open, giving wine with a splendid floral and dried fruit nose. Some apricot-like tropical flavors here, with dried peaches and butter notes. Although the softest and smoothest wine in the flight, this still exhibited that trademark elegance that seems to be Ricardo’s style.

Not as complex as the 10y Sercial and Verdeho.
