Ruby, with a garnet hue; no signs of age. Alluring bouquet of black fruit Jolly Ranchers, pencil shavings, wet earth, eucalyptus, and an attractive hint of dank and musty basement. Poised, focused and fully integrated, showing vivid balance, melted tannins, lush black fruit flavors, and beautiful spices on the extended finish. Just lovely.

Since this bottle was a Jereboam the wine was closed and not at all ready with plenty of tannins and acid that obscured the fruit. I my opinion it would have come around in about five years. So I should not have opened it.

Decanted for 4+ hours. Dark, silky, thick, massive. Fruit seems reserved - dark berries and plums, notes of very dark chocolate, earthy coffee, leather. Really nice with different cheeses, but amazingly did not overpower grilled crab legs - the sweetness of the crab and the butter really were a good match for this wine (a nice surprise!)
