  • Medium ruby garnet rim. Nose of violet, black peppper, blackberry, prune, grilled meat, smoky - A wild but restained impression. On palate, it is medium body and acidity with some grippy tannin, a focused palate with combination of bright black, red fruits and spices, game, savoury, black tea. A bit short though.

  • A weak bottle, much more green and herbaceous than the others, which are all perfectly fruity.

  • An absolutely amazing and magnificent nose. The 2000 L'Esprit de Font Caude reveals a literal attack of violets, crème de cassis and mature red fruits. A virtually perfect experience. The impressive palate, somewhat lacking the complexity of the nose, explodes in a cascade of cool wet stone and a finish which just goes on and on. Most impressive however, is the elegance permeating the overall attitude of this wine. Nothing is over the top, but very well balanced; No sense of heat is to be found anywhere. Drink up now if you have any bottles left. Highly Recommended. (I honestly do not understand the constant under ratings of Alain Chabanon's wines. The 2000 L'Esprit de Font Caude is pure proof of Mr Chabanon's true skills in wine making. A solid effort.)

  • Marvellous! The 2000 L'Esprit de Font Caude performed amazingly well tonight. Though this wine should definitely not rest any longer in your cellar it is an absolute stunner at the dinner table right now. It reminded me of a mature and full-bodied Bordeaux with cool red fruits, wet clay and very elegant tannins residing in the back-end of the 45 second palate. The wine is well integrated revealing just the amount of texture needed to accompany the oven roasted filet of Turkey, Girolles and potatoes Pont Neuf. As all other wines by Alain Chabanon this wine is also leaning more towards the elegant side than the exciting one, though I truly have to say I was excited over this experience. Thanks Alain! Highly recommended.

(Domaine Alain Chabanon Coteaux du Languedoc Montpeyroux L'Esprit de Font Caude) Blueberry/blackberry nose; a little tight but excellent Syrah, with grilled sausage notes as it opens; long finish (Syrah and a bit of Grenache)
