Subtle and ethereal, complex bouquet of red fruit, dried leaves, sweet tobacco, cedar, and rose petal, perfectly balanced, delicate palate of black cherry, strawberry jam, and plum sauce with notes of chocolate, white pepper, truffle, and mushroom, soft, round tannins, lengthy finish with a suggestion of plum. Perfect with seared duck breast, roasted vegetables, and whipped potatoes.

Opened this at Schwa in Chicago with friends. This is ripe for the plucking now -- brisk acidity, with ripe cherry and dried fruits, nice earthiness and soft tannins. I brought it home from Bourgougne as a young pup, and it was worth it.

Dark purple slightly lightening at the rim, medium bodied, this respectable Burgundy, drinks with pleasure and ease. Must decant for one to two hours, and do not worry about any loss of aromatics. This wine needs the air to reveal its mouth feel. Mildly aromatic, with cherry and cranberry and spice and mangosteen, this wine works because of its lack of delineation. Smooth and tannin soft, the most compelling characteristic is its balance. Ready to drink, I bought six bottles at the Chateau in 2008 for $60 and had shipped to the U.S. Looks like a reasonable value now.

Drink side by side with 1995 Chateau de Pommard.
Both exhibit similar notes of tobacco, toast, cedar, red fruits.
I prefer 2005 as its fresher and higher tannin which blend well with the Chinese cuisine I'm having.
