Splash double decant. Deep dark electric magenta color. Blackberry , blueberry, Italian dwarf plum, powdered sugar, cocoa, and graham cracker. Very smooth, dry palate. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the medium long+ finish.
Best bottle of this vintage I’ve had so far. Nailed the prep. Doesn’t need much air, but it does need full decant rather than slow ox. This is so good, even without any herbal or savory balancing notes. QPR champ here.
2 hour decant.....opened tableside at a nice French Bistro before the concert. Candied red fruit on the nose and palate. Pretty typical Carter barrel notes on both as well. Vanilla, cedar.....I'm losing my taste for this profile but Carol was all over it......lol. A third of the bottle left under a Repour stopper to try tomorrow. Addendum to follow....
Addendum: next night, this needs about 15 min of air to come around. Then it's good but a reduced version of itself, maybe a 92. What I've learned about the Repour stopper is to pour off what you want and put the stopper right in. Don't decant the whole bottle for the full airtime and then try to save the rest. It can't get you back to the very beginning. It maintains the wine very well, but can't take it back to its beginning.
Four hour slow ox. Very very deep magenta color. Ripe blackberry, boysenberry, chocolate malt, and licorice. Smooth, dry palate, with vibrant, dusty acidity. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish.
This is fruit forward and easy drinking, but it lacks complexity and some back end structure. It’s essentially Carter’s answer to Schrader’s Double Diamond. If you like one, you’ll like both. I certainly like, but don’t love, both (for the reasons noted above).
A lovely wine, dark, ripe berry fruit, black cherry dark ripe berries, good extraction and not over the top (although that's sometimes okay for my palate). Good stuff, 95 Points.
Solid entry level Carter Cab that delivers. New world style, definitely a crowd pleaser and equally enjoyable for wine drinkers who look for a little something more in a wine, especially for the price point.
