We have been drinking a lot of the 2007 recently and the 2004 blows it out of the water. Much more complex with at least a partial malo fermentation. Some oak, but certainly not over the top. Now only if the 2007s were this good....

Purchased from the winery last fall. I concur with Frank's review -- strong citrus notes with a powerful kick of heat and sweet lemon curd. Clearly this is a bit young but a decent QPR at $20 or so. I did not get any of the minerality or nutty tones. Not really a Chard for me but a solid effort.

I think that this may be the first harvest off this new Melville property. Last fall, I bought several bottles of the Pinot bottling of this vineyard (again, first harvest?) and thought it was pretty amazing Pinot. As for the Chardonnay here, this is no shy wine. Sitting in the glass, I can smell the bouquet from a few feet away. It throws a lemony, hazelnut scented richness that just smells terrific. The wine has a creme brulee, lemony feel, along with butterscoth and caramel. Is all of that from the oak? Not sure but I like it. The wine finishes with a mix of minerals and a sleek licorice note. At 15.5% alcohol and about $20, this was a great bottle with the halibut last night.

Not quite as effusive about this bottle as I was with the last one. Still very good. One to go.

Nose - pineapple, oak
Mouth - pear, ripe peach - hint of butterscotch - oak detracts from the fruit
