First date with Wasenhaus Spätburgunder (Sergy, France): Mid-Slope in the heart of the climat, southern exposure, 18 months in stainless steel Vines from 1968, spontaneous malo Hmmm… so good. This was wine of the lunch (WOTL since I have another tasting tonight cannot dub it WOTD yet): citrus zest, oyster shell, ripe citrus and iodine whiff; wonderful nose. The palate brings in green almonds, peaches but still that saline and iodine streak that brings it all together. I love how Louis Michel Les Clos can bring joy at any age.

2020 Louis Michel Premier and Grand Crus (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Medium yellow color. Salty and floral on the nose. Beautiful medium weight and flowing feel in the mouth. Restrained ripe pear and apple fruit on the attack along with a good dose of those mysterious brothy Chablis flavors followed by tart but not shrill acidity and a youthfully dry finish. Excellent persistence and length. Definitely the most complete Grand Cru, but is it that much better than the Montée de Tonnerre, especially for the difference in price? I'm not sure.
