deeply colored, some cricking at rim. on the nose there is a lot going on... mostly dark fruits, plums, dark cherries, lots of earthy notes... lots of savory notes, i don't pick up much new oak but there are some baking spice notes. on the palate high acids, a broad and deep midpalate, finishes with firm grape tannins and square and drying oak tannins, moderate alcohol. balanced wine with very good length, intensity... lots of complexity. wine has finesse, a sruare, slighlty rustic but deep texture... very Italy to me. this is a very nice wine with a ton going on... it drinks well now but i'm guessing will continue to evolve for the next 3-5 years.

Really enjoyed this wine, but I am having a hard getting my head around it being mostly Merlot. This is not because I have any beef with Merlot, but because it has relatively high acidity and is very lively rather than having that smooth, easy sophistication of a Merlot from the likes of Bordeaux.

(Vignalta Colli Euganei Gemola) Medium dark red violet color with bricking meniscus; aromatic, black plum, blackberry, mocha nose; delicious, velvety textured, plush, black plum, blackberry, mocha palate with good balancing acidity; medium-plus finish (70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc; 14% alcohol; natural cork)

Moderate earthy cherry oak nose. Very well balanced with nice fruit, acid and chalk.
