  • Relatively oaky, which may turn some off. For me, the oak is starting to integrate, though this still comes off as a bit young. Tropical fruit, caramel and oak on the nose. On the palate, good depth of fruit but again gives an impression of an adolescent...not quite ready. Still showing a good amount of acidity and some tannins in the background. I would ideally recommend waiting a couple of years on this one, but it is appealing enough now that my remaining bottles are in jeopardy.

  • I find as I get older my blind tasting abilities are increasingly affected by my state of mind. Before I get labeled "Captain Obvious," I will tell you that in my long blind-tasting career I do not remember that being tired, cranky, etc. influenced my perceptions or shaped what I literally tasted. Now it seems they do, and if I'm not "on my game" I can flounder helplessly like a newbie, unable to trust impressions that I would otherwise have considered rock-solid and impervious to external stimuli other than what's in the glass before me. Such was the case with this last night, which initially threw off such a strong petrol aroma I thought it was a riesling, except it had too much body and a bone dry finish. "Trocken riesling?" I tendered meekly. Yikes! It was actually a very good Chassagne, with white stone fruit notes and minerality I guess that I first read as petrol. There was a noticeable impression of wood and it finished just a tad abruptly to nudge it up a notch. I don't mind being human but this was embarrassing.

  • Woodier, less deep, and less interesting that the Embrazees from same producer. Decent acidity, good white fruit, some vanillin oak, good but not intriguing like its brother. B
