Late night Maison Dakota. Drank in Grassl 1855. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of peppery spice, licorice, dark red cherries, sour red cherry. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), polished soft approchable high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sour red cherries, dark red cherries, sweet plums, licorice, peppery oak spice and some milkiness. Long finish with polished oak and tannins. With much more air it gets significantly less oaky, and by Day 2, the oak has fully integrated in, leaving the classic sour red cherries to do their thing. Good quality. Approachable now with air. Otherwise give this a few more years to shed the 30% new oak. Quite elegant for a Monforte.
