  • NYC tasting at the Modern. Well first of all, I have to say thank you to Lawrence and Jacqueline for their tremendous generosity in offering their *whole freaking line* of 2019s in a tasting. Now, even with air these were all painfully young so I have to project a little to what these will taste like when properly cellared. What follows is wine specific:

The 2019 Sigaro is an immensely satisfying almost old school wine, and very different from the rest of the flight. Heavier oak, more up front fruit, this is the Fairchild you want if you want a wine that really makes you feel on location. I don’t mean to suggest that the rest of the flight had less terroir to them - the opposite is true - but this was sort of rustic in the best sense of the word. Really put a smile on my face. Probably more approachable than the other wines as a result. Pure CA in an honest, well made and unapologetic style. Loved it.
Score : 95. Fk it. This is as good as the rodeo gets.
Relative to expectations: ++. This is not the best wine Fairchild makes but god it’s a favorite.

  • Best vintage of this wine for me (been drinking them since the 12 edition). The ripe fruit is notable, given this site is generally driven by minerality. Opens with cassis, violets, dark chocolate and spice box on the nose. Really juicy, rich and full bodied, there’s fantastic layers of super pure fruit wrapped in noble yet firm tannins that make this incredibly tasty right now. Even with the more expressive fruit, there’s still plenty of mid palate density and mineral driven flavors leading to a long a satisfying finish
