  • I had this tonight after a glass of the 2022 Charles Audoin Marsannay Rose’, and these are two very different versions of a rose’ wine.

The color here is almost blood red, and this feels pretty substantial on the palate - you could probably substitute this in for a Pinot Noir with food and you wouldn’t be disappointed.

  • Light strawberry red. Nose is fruity with notes of grenade, cherries, strawberries and pomelo. Mouthfeel is full bodied, generous, fruity and still very youthful, with nice acidity and notes of strawberries, grenade, cherries, red currants and pomelo, with long aftertaste.

This is a very particular rosé, rather like something half way between red and rosé, but it's very good! Really excellent wine!

  • As I commented in my initial note last year, this is a darkly colored rose'. This is 95% Mourvedre and I believe half of the wine is done in 30 hectoliter Stockinger foudres (a picture of one is included on the label) before the final blend.

Quite dry and structured on the palate. Faint citrus on the nose. I like the wine, but it can be a divisive wine for those seeking a simple, toss one back on the deck, Summer sipper.

  • Flickinger Warehouse Tasting (Chicago, IL): This reminds me a bit of the LdH rosado -- it's a very earthy, herbal, saline, and savoury wine. There is a hint of strawberry underneath all of those things, but for the most part, this is a serious table wine as opposed to a patio drinker.

  • I just tried the 2021 “Normale”, and now a glass of the 2020 “riserva”. This is noticeably darker in the glass, more blood orange than salmon. Also weightier/fuller-bodied on the palate. Interesting comparison!
