I have had good luck with '96 Loire dessert wines over the years, but I have also had some clunkers. This one would probably fall into the clunker bucket. For starters, the cork fractured and had to be macerated into the bottle and the wine filtered. Dark yellow trending to brown, viscous, and slightly maderized. Small beam of acidity that one looks for in chenins, but not enough. I think this is probably a decade past its prime. Oh well.

Deep golden yellow color. On the nose, rich caramel aroma along with honey, floral, and toast. Flavors of honey and floral on the palate. Plenty of acidity remaining. Delightful.
