  • WCC California Pinot Noir Blind Tasting (Provence Restaurant, Albany, NY): Earthy, mature cherry mint nose. Rich, balanced. Quite nice. WOTF.

  • This surprised and delighted me. I bought two bottles for $10 a year ago because my wine merchant doubted it was stil good. He was wrong last year and he's wrong again this year. I really enjoyed this wine with Thanksgiving dinner. A delicate cherry-ish nose. Tannins resolved. Just a perfecr accompaniment to roast turkey feast on Thanksgiving. As much as I liked the Paul Blanck Mambourg Gewurz, I liked this a little better.

  • Bought this from Jeff to have at Ariel's Thanksgiving BBQ party that night. Was looking for something old and American when I spotted it on wine list. Only 2 bottles left. Price on shelf was $50, but Howard agreed to sell for $10 apiece because no one sure of its drinkability. Jeff thought it would be OK, but it was kept in store, not cold room, so it was a gamble. But for 10 bucks... and of course if bad, I could return it.

Brought home and decanted about an hour before going over; sediment noticeable around punt; color was light red with tinge of brown. Smelled OK but not great. Tasted mediocre, a little sharp; decided to take a backup bottle of Pride cab to party just in case. Poured wine back into bottle, corked it and went over to Ariel's.

This was the first red served after 2 viogniers and 2 older champagnes. I was surprised and delighted. Tasted soft and delicious; raspberries and cherry; beautiful pinot nose. Taste and smell very different from when it was decanted. Lots of compliments; a few said they couldn't believe it held up so well for 13 years. Glad we had this before trying some of Big Boys that followed

Have one more bottle for another occasion, but need to drink soon - next few months
