  • This wine had been in my cellar since release. When this wine was younger, it was already medium full in body and quite dark. It was not as open and deep as the 05 which was the first vintage. The wine tasted a little high in acid but was overall very enjoyable. Now fast forward to Dec 2014, the wine is now a little tile like in color around the edge but still deep and red in the core. The wine is spicy and cedary in the nose with a touch of tobacco. The taste is consistent with the nose. It is very complex and the body is still all there. The acidity is still a bit high but the complexity and richness dominates. It is an excellent wine that can go up against a lot of fine wines from high end appellations. It is also for me the best Minnesota grown wine ever. The wine had aged well. In eight years it has grown up well. My guess is that it is fully mature but it will hold way for at least another five years. It was a pleasure. I would liken this wine to a mature Rhone wine, something between a Hernitage and a Chateauneuf. Great effort from Nan Bailly.

  • No formal notes taken the first night, but this was the best Minnesota-made wine I've tasted. The nose was rich, ripe, loaded with jammy fruit and some pipe tobacco notes. The palate was similar with concentrated dark fruit that was borderline sweet, followed with some tobacco. There were some subtle traces of red pepper lurking behind the fruit on the mid-palate, some cedar/oak notes, balanced acidity and a touch of alcohol on the back end, but the fruit stayed for the entire ride well into the finish.

I bought this at the winery a couple years ago, this cellared impressively well in my opinion. Delicious with grilled ribeye and the final glass was still decent on day 2.

  • Hmmn. Bottle variation? Tasted at Steve's (was a gift from me) and this was a poor bottle. Balance off, too acidic. Spritzy - carbonation. I think that the basic appeal of this wine was there, in the background, but the problems mentioned stood in the way of enjoying this wine. That said, I had already tasted this wine in the past year and in that instance, none of these problems were apparent. That's why I'm wondering about bottle variation.

  • This wine was controversial for us. I thought it had some interesting qualities and my wife described it as "harsh" and "petrol" (and not in the good way). The nose reminded me of strawberry shortbread and angel food cake. The finish was pleasant. My thought is that it would pair well with BBQ sauce. Probably won't buy it again but certainly worth a try - possibly the best red table wine currently made in MN. Blend but neither the bottle nor the web page says what it is.
