Bienvenue a Champagne; 4/20/2023-4/29/2023 (Les Crayeres, various restaurants, Les Avises and a many wonderful producers): One of the producers this trip that really spoke to me and probably one of my ‘finds’ from the trip where I didn’t realize how much I might like their wine. This started off a touch tight and at first all I really got was more of the oxidative side. With some time though it opened and opened even more. Had next to the Laval Les Hautes Chevre which was an interesting comparison point. This ended up really quite tasty with more time in the glass. We got a few at the winery and I look forward to laying ours down for some time and when we do open making sure that we have enough time to really let the wine open up.

The champagne is oxidative. Quite attractive with bread crumbs and hazelnut on the nose and palate. A bit light on the mid-palate with a short finish. Very enjoyable nevertheless.

Apparently this wine was only made in 2016 - 100% Pinot Meunier, disgorged Dec 2019. I really liked the nose here - had minerality, lemon zest and a touch oxidative notes. The palate was medium bodied with nice acidity, some citrus notes, sharp. It was not tasted blind.
