Root Day - a ‘found in the cellar’ wine. But having almond crusted chicken with spicy mayo/mustard sauce and scalloped spaghetti squash/potatoes so seemed appropriate to pull it out and try it. Dark lemon core, edge and rim. Nose of classic Gew roses, lychee and spice. Can’t believe it’s still so alive! On the palate there’s definitely some oxidation but then the big lychee and spice hits and rushes that away. Big, rich and oily on the palate it’s got terrific acidity cutting the oiliness and finishing with bright spice (although there is definitely some oxydative notes as well). At the last, the lychee fruit takes over and the richness returns. An ‘Intellectual’ wine - not for everybody at this point but extremely interesting.

Pungent spice, with chile, clove and ginger flavors complementing cashew and pineapple fruit. Good weight in the mouth with good balance of richness and acidity. very spicy in the mouth with more ginger and candied fruit flavors. Long finish.

Very spicy and nutty, an interesting wine for sure. I didn't find it too sweet.

Very sweet. A little out of balance on the palate. Nose is enticing and fresh.
Not bad for the buck. Would search out better though.
