57% Syrah, 27% Grenache, 9% Cinsault, 7% Tinta Barroca; Sourced from six sustainably farmed vineyard parcels in different parts of the Swartland, aged 7-48 years. 60% whole bunch fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged for 11 months in 3rd and 4th fill French oak 225L barrels & 500L demi-muids. The nose shows red and dark fruit along with a spicy, meaty Syrah side. On the palate, it’s ripe and fruity upfront with red and dark fruits, but the tannins are suave and its light on its feet. Medium bodied. Medium acid but stays fresh. My only gripe is there’s heat on the back-end at 14% alcohol. It sort of reminds me of California Zinfandel or red from the South of France, which is the inspiration for this blend.

The nose strikes the balance between cherry fruit and green resin, with cola, brandy, and spice splitting the difference. The palate is more savory, with heavy smoke and Band-Aid notes, closing with black-tea tannin and a noticeable bitterness. In a blind tasting, I’d suspect this of being a Syrah-forward Cotes du Rhone… looking it up… I’m a smart boy! Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, yep yep… and Tinta Barroca, no idea what that’s supposed to taste like. I wish there was a bit more fruit, but otherwise this is a very pleasant Rhone-style blend.

Cinsault and tints barocca as well. Crushed grapes and whole bunch. Crushed stone and black pepper, black fruits. Easy drinking, fresh yet very nicely balanced and not too simple
