  • Starting to open up, dark ruby colour, rich nose full of ripe strawberries/raspberries. Very round and full-bodied, red fruit, a touch of leather and gamey notes, great value for Gevrey Chambertin.

  • Wine open 5 hours prior to drinking on Day 1.

Color: Dull medium cherry red that is a bit cloudy with fine sediment mixed in. The sediment can more clearly been seen under a bright halogen light. Still has a very young appearance. Smells more like a young Vosne Romanee than a Gevrey.

Nose: Pretty red berry and spice overtones. Better and more expressive then I thought it would be. I love the sweet floral, earth nuances.

Taste Day 1: Medium body with more of a new world (non classical) feel. This is definitely not a Fourrier or Bachelet gevery as it lacks the elegance, purity or femininity of those producers but for a more modern style it is good for it's level. This trends toward the red fruit profile and has good depth of fruit. The balance and finish are OK for a A/C wine but not exceptional. My personal preference is more more elegant and refined wines and although this Burguet does not fall in that category it is still a relatively well made red Burgundy but with less of a Gevrey character which is somewhat surprising. Modernists may prefer this more than me but I wish there was less extraction and more delicacy in the style. This could use some more time in the bottle to round out some tannins on the finish and it will be interesting to see it on day 2. Score 89

Taste Day 2: Similar to the previous day except it is fuller and less acidic. Not sure I would buy from this producer again as it is not my style. A fairly simple and fruity wine with a moderately complex finish but where is the elegance. I actually prefer the 2005 Cathiard Bourgogne Rouge as it is delicious with great balance drawing me back for more. This wine is just another modern Pinot Noir but good for what it is. 88-89

  • Wonderful burgundy nose, followed by a bottle drinking much better than we recall the last. If every Gevrey this price tasted like this, I'd have a lot more Gevrey in our cellar.

  • Lovely velvet/ruby colour. Ripe small red fruits on nose. Good balance of fruit/acid/tannins. Very soft. VG village.
