Damn, it feels like yesterday we were just complaining about the release prices of the 2005s, and now this one is basically what you could call mature. Time is not fair. This was, of course, not one of the wines to complain about, just an honest Cru Artisan that went for around thirty bucks. Now it's packed with Pauillac personality, rendered in dark black hues evoking dried blackberry skins, smoldering cigars, walnuts, mushrooms, and sous bois. Most of the fruit's primary gloss is gone but there is still some prickly structure giving it the feel of an old standard playing with static on an AM radio.

I remember this being a very satisfying wine on release, but hardly the thrill ride it is now. This is rocking right out of the gate with expressive cedar and cigar box aromas and vivid blackberry and black raspberry fruit that has serious bite and acuity. It has a little bit of edgy, ashy tannin but seems to get more of its structure from the acidity. And while this is a very different wine than it was a dozen years ago it certainly doesn't taste anywhere near a dozen years old. It's bold and fresh and if you'd told me it was from the current vintage, I'd have believed you. So no rush to drink, but such a joy to drink, no regrets either.

Labeled as 13% alcohol by volume. Dark purple color; opaque. Dark fruits (cassis, huckleberry) with hints of leather banquette. Feathery tannins. On the palate, a pleasant tart fruit going down easy with a fairly lengthy finish. This wine was fairly smooth drinking upon arrival on American shores and continues to be enjoyable although I don't know if I would cellar it much longer. Well matched to a broiled New York strip steak. Good QPR. I really enjoyed this as a quality non-classified Bordeaux.

Monthly Tasting Group: Bordeaux with Some Real Honeys (Victory 44, Mpls, MN): Just took a small pour of this and followed over 45 minute plus. Full bodied, ok, dark fruits, a bit lean, oak, angular. Not bad, but a bit underwhelming.
