  • Another great experience. Medium yellow, some fine crystals. More floral this time with lime, herbs, and peach. Very dry and powerfully acidic and long. Lean, great tension. This remains at a fantastic, fully mature plane.

  • Yellow and slightly cloudy from fine tartrate crystals-this wine just couldn't keep all of the acidity dissolved! Piercing nose and attack of dried peach and lemon. For a Smaragd, quite sleek in weight, and it just keeps coming at you with its fruit, acidity, fennel and herbs, and minerality. Like other '96 Austrian wines I've had, powerful underlying structure which will carry it for years. I loved it, as it pushed the acidity as far as possible without seeming screechy and tart.
