For a Smaragd, quite sleek in weight, and it just keeps coming at you with its fruit, acidity, fennel and herbs, and minerality. Like other '96 Austrian wines I've had, powerful underlying structure which will carry it for years. I loved it, as it pushed the acidity as far as possible without seeming screechy and tart.
