Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 95.8 points

  • One hour decant. Deep dark magenta color. Caramel corn, blackberry, boysenberry, and subtle minerality and black dirt. Dry, satiny palate. Firm, full, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish.

My score is just a placeholder. This will be great, but needs time to resolve. Think “iron fist in a velvet glove”. Mark Carter was kind enough to personally host the tasting for #1WineLover and I.

  • Decanted 5 hours. Amazing wine! Very expressive nose you can smell from 2 feet away. Bursts of flavor in the mouth. Definitely more fruity than earthy at this point. Will continue to evolve. This could possibly be my favorite Napa wine, which is saying a lot given how many wines I’ve had.

  • Drank this at The Napa in Newport gala. I drank wine from 17 of the 45 participating wineries. Mark Carter himself poured this for me and this was my favorite wine of the evening. Fairly or unfairly, this also happens to be one of my favorite wines.

A beautiful nose and on the palate rich flavors of blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry, and that amazing scorched earth. I know many people are saying the 2021's need to lay down for a bit but this wine was drinking fantastic. I have no idea how long this wine was open.

I didn't order this wine this year because I was ticked at the $55 price jump from the 2019's (Didn't order any 2020's from anybody) and I was unsure of the change of winemakers from Mike Smith to Russel Bevan. Well, I can tell you I noticed all most no change in the wine except there was an extra plushness to the finish that is a Bevan signature. This tasting changed my mind and I will be ordering my typical 3 pack. A lot of people must have felt like I did as this is still available and usually sells out right away.

  • Quick stop by Envy/Carter last weekend to pick up a couple bottles. To my luck, the 21' Carter lineup was ready to go, thanks Dan and Haley!! On the nose, you'll catch a surprise note of spice over the black fruit. On the palate, it all about the force. Not the iron fist/velvet glove example, but fresh fruit with layered complexity. It's a big wine, but there is polish and depth that makes the wine undeniably classy. These Carter 21's will likely command another set of high scores. The La Verdad and OG were again my favorites, but that Three Kings was also amazing and slightly more approachable at the moment. 97-100pts.
