Pristine cork, good color, this was in surprisingly good shape for 25 years old. I get the sense it maybe wasn't intended to cellar that long. Blackberry, parchment, leather, cloves, black pepper, allspice, vanilla. The oak flavors dominate the fruit. Obviously age plays a role, but I would guess that was true when this bottle was young as well. Too unbalanced to be excellent but still interesting and fun to drink.

This was a great wine to open with a fall dinner. The nose carried dark fruit, leather and a nice damp fall hike in the deciduous forest sort of earthiness that matched both our food and the change of season. This wine showed some definite secondary characteristics with a smooth soft palate balanced by a still present tannic and acidic structure. The finish was quite persistent with lingering tertiary blackberry flavors. Very nice.

decanted and tasted over 60 minutes...did not improve at all. well past its prime, although it was excellent about 5 years back.
