Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • [blind tasting, bracketed comments are the guesswork].

pale straw and medium body in the glass. smokey notes pervade the nose of ripe pear and almond that also has flinty and zesty whiffs. buttery in the mouth, there is a bright acidic vein brightening the lean-feeling fruit while a chalky minerality and the smoky notes pull the flavours back to earthiness. some spice and saline notes provide accents and there is good length.

interesting – and very gastronomic – style of Chardonnay that incorporates the richness of the wood while maintaining a nerviness to the fruit. it is barrel-fermented (30% new French oak), but does not go thru malo.

[i did rather quickly guess Chardonnay from somewhere in California, or perhaps Oregon… not being a big CH drinker, i stopped there in the guesswork].
