A private lunch (Restaurant Bak, Amsterdam, NL): Quite a tannic and rustic style, powerful, fresh and energetic but not really expressive of its terroir or even grape varieties, old fashioned, firm, good length. Long life, but hardly a charmer.

Blend of 85% Serine (similar to Syrah) and 15% Viognier. Surprisingly extracted murky black color. Nose of forest floor, black cherries, barnyard, and horse blanket. Layers of iron and other minerals hit the palate. The finish is extremely tannic and bitter. Not my style of wine but my guess is that it’s well crafted.

Accord des plus réussi avec le veau sauce aux Morilles. Le nez est puissant, sur la fumée, les épices, la terre et les épices avec des violettes, très beau! En bouche, beaucoup de matière et de complexité. Des mures, du poivre noir moulu, de l’anis et de la viande fumée se succèdent. Les tannins sont bien enrobés et la texture veloutée du vin le rende très digeste et approchable en ce moment. Passablement long. SUPERBE! Que c’est bon la Côte-Rôtie quand c’est bien fait.

Served starting 2 hours after decanting. Very sharp and alcoholic on the nose, more intense, smoky, leather, savory with black olive notes.
