Could have been an "off" bottle? Rather dull, not offensive, just not very interesting. A wine from the Langhe should be somewhat distinctive, I think. Had hopes, at least, for a pleasing aroma. Not really. Billed as a worthwhile & notable wine by K&L. Cannot recommend

Aldo Conterno quality for under $20. While Cab, Merlot and Barbera account for about 60% of this wine's makeup, the Nebbiolo that makes up the remainder is very present. No doubt that this a Piedmontese wine.
The wine still has a notable deep red color, with very little bricking. It needs at least an hour's decanting before serving. Bouquet reveals roses, some forest floor, berry compote and a hint of tar.
On the palate you get intense sour cherry, alongside notes of eucalyptus, tapenade and red berries. Finish brings in a hint of marzipan. GREAT food wine, and a steal at this price point. Definitely buying more.

Delicious, round, juicy and bursting with red fruits. Great daily drinker. Great value.

Our last (and one of the best) of a number of bottles, whose quality seemed to be marked by quite a bit of variation, being affected by VA sometimes.
