  • Very compelling, complete and lovely wine. At Sous les Nez, Leeds, with Peter Sidebotham, Ian Clarke and Alan Petherbridge. Wine of the lunch, for us all, by a distance. Quite pale (no hint of ox of course), and a mealy, but wholly fresh, floral nose. Stunning balance in a light ethereal sense, a delight to return to even after heavier Meursaults, and several Cote de Nuits 1ers and Grands Crus. This is a great wine. My WOTY for 2015.

  • Opened 2 hours, but not decanted. Some oxidisation; not yet ruined, although definitely impaired. Still quite enjoyable, and we finished the bottle. But disappointing in the context of the vintage and the vineyard.

  • Light gold. Smoke on the nose, and a touch of tar. Not a trace of premox or advancement -- how refreshing! (I believe 1995 was the last of the pre-premox vintages.) After 20 minutes of air, a very delicious, still smoky, complex palate, with assertive acidity, but no longer so mouth-puckering. A very fine bottle, but I guess there is still more to come, and these should be left to slumber for another couple of years.

  • Really splendid. Pungent, nutty, succulent, quite intense and complex wine, becoming more admirable and harmonious after a little time in the glass. Green-gold; flowers, lanolin and saddle soap on the nose; a touch of woodsmoke, with intense fruit and acidity in perfect balance. Mouth puckeringly good.
